The Nigerian government to meet with a regulator, a producer of the price of soaring cooking gas

The Minister of State for Oil Resources (Gas), Experikpe Ekpo, has concluded plans to meet with the Liquid Oil Gas Regulatory Institution and Producers to Overcome New Cooking Gas Prices throughout the country.

Ekpo made disclosures during the launch of LPG grass root penetration and cylinder distribution programs for southwest zones held in Lagos on Monday.

This initiative, implemented by the Decade of the Gas Secretariat in collaboration with private partners, witnessed the distribution of 250 LPG cylinders full to households that were less served in Lagos.

This is part of a broader federal government plan to transmit 250,000 houses each year to cleanse cooking gas in 2030 in all 774 regional government territories in Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists at the event, the Minister admitted that the sharp increase in LPG prices, noted that the 12.5 kilogram cylinder was now sold for around ₦ 16,200, up from ₦ 13,500 months before.

He said: “I just received information this morning that the price of gas has risen again.

“I will invite regulators and producers to the meeting to discuss this issue. Our goal is to ensure that gas prices fall and remain affordable.

“Energy security is about affordability and availability, and we intend to overcome any factors that encourage this increase.”

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to promote gas as a sustainable and accessible source of energy for Nigerian households.
