A faction of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has dissociated the Southeast region from the upcoming #FearlessInOctobeter protests scheduled for Tuesday, October 1 across the country.
The Secretary General of the group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro who expressed his stance in a statement on Saturday, said that the group was facing increasing pressure from the organizers and organizers of the upcoming nationwide protests, but insisted that the South East region would not be part of the action. the demonstration.
“These agents, in desperation, are trying to lure our South East residents, as well as the Igbo communities living in the North and West regions, to support and participate in this affair,” Isiguzoro said.
“Troublingly, we discovered that two former presidential candidates in the 2023 elections secretly organized these protests, recruiting surrogates disguised as civil society organizations.
“Their main aim seems to be to gain support from the South East and Igbo people for this October 1 demonstration.

“However, it must be stated unequivocally that the Igbo community has been hugely impacted by these economic hardships, especially with the floating of the notorious Naira river, making it almost impossible for Igbo importers and traders to conduct business effectively in Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape At the moment.
“However, we want to send a strong message to all Ndigbo, both within the country and in the diaspora: the nationwide protests of October 1 are a dangerous time bomb created by desperate political elites and opposition leaders who intend to use Igbo as sacrificial lambs.
“Intrigues like this are designed to escalate already rising tensions and are exacerbated by the ongoing economic downturn.
“In this regard, we urge our respected Igbo community not to participate in any form of nationwide protest.
“The impact of such actions is not only detrimental but could also result in the Igbo community being unfairly made scapegoats in the larger political game.” the statement added.
