The PDP crisis continues as two factions mobilize parallel candidates for the 2027 elections

The crisis engulfing the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is intensifying by the day as two different factions in the party have fielded parallel candidates for elected positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The faction controlled by FCT Minister, Nyesome Wike, and another faction loyal to Seyi Makinde but led by Tanimu Turaki have handed over certificates of return to election contesting candidates.

The two factions held separate events in Abuja with each faction claiming to be the legitimate leadership of the PDP. It remains to be seen which factions will be recognized by the Independent National Election Commission.

This development comes just 24 hours before INEC is scheduled to release access codes to political parties to upload the names of candidates contesting the general elections.

On his part, Wike expressed confidence in his faction’s position, and said the issuance of the INEC access code on June 26 would ultimately validate the leadership of the PDP led by his camp.

“As far as I know, on June 26 they will give access codes to political parties to upload results. Don’t worry, we are ready. Nobody is afraid. We’ll see who INEC will give the codes to,” he said.

The faction then handed over a certificate of return for the 2027 presidential candidate, Sandy Onor, along with the gubernatorial candidate and other candidates.

Additionally, at a separate event also in Abuja, the Turaki-led faction stated that they had succeeded in producing candidates for all electoral offices and would contest in every constituency in the 2027 elections.

Turaki said his party had confirmed 28 gubernatorial candidates, 109 senatorial candidates, 360 House of Representatives candidate members and 993 State Council candidate members after what he called strict screening and security checks.

But he did not say who would run for president.
