The police arrested a suspect of transnational human traders, saving victims in Enugu

The police operation in Enugu has arrested a suspect in transnational human trafficking, Raymond Wonna.

The 30 -year -old suspect was arrested while carrying two young girls to Ghana.

The victims, 18 years old, came from the regional government in the cross river.

Spokesman for State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday at Enugu.

Ndukwe said the suspect and his victims were intercepted on July 30 by the tactical squad operators cracked during routine patrols along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Enugu.

He said: “Initial investigations revealed that the victims were traded to Ghana with a guise to secure employment opportunities without the knowledge or approval of their parents or relatives.

“The suspect, who claimed to be an ordinary laborer, lured them from Ogoja, Cross River State, to work in a restaurant in Ghana.

“Further findings show that the suspect is also trying to rape the victims while staying at a hotel, where they continue to wait for departure.

“The victims have returned home safely and reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track other members from the human trafficking network.”
