The Ondo State Police Command has rejected claims by Afenifere Youth Leaders, Eniola Ojajuni, that his kidnapping in February 2025 was regulated by four traditional rulers in the state that helped the abduction.
Ojjajuni video while in captivity has emerged at that time with Afenifere Youth Leaders asking the Nigerians and the authorities to help him collect the ransom that had been placed by his kidnappers at the N100M or he would be killed.
After he was released by the kidnappers, Ojajuni, in March, spoke of a press conference where he stated that the kidnappers had established at least 55 camps throughout the southwest, strategically positioned for their operations and supported by four traditional rulers.
Although he did not mention the names of traditional rulers, Ojajuni said they came from the North Senator District of Ondo which was dominated by Akoko people.
He further revealed that most of the kidnapping camps are located in the state of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, and Ogun, describing Wahyunya as a summons for the government and security institutions.
However, the State Police Command has rejected the abduction claims of Afenifere Youth Leaders, describing the accusation as fake and contrary to the version given by his family.
In a statement posted on the handle of X from the command by his spokesman, Ayanlade Sports, the police said Ojjajuni was not kidnapped or released by a kidnapper known in the state.
Olushola insisted that Ojajuni’s accusations had no credibility, quoting inconsistency in his statement that was contrary to the account provided by his wife and siblings.
He stated further that Ojajuni had constantly ignoring many invitations for formal questions and answers, which could significantly assist the ongoing investigation, emphasizing that the alleged abduction of Ojajuni was surrounded by mystery, marked by conflicting accounts and actions that were not in harmony with the methods that already existed in the State Signal.
The statement reads:
“The attention of the Ondo State Police Command has been withdrawn in the new claim that was made on social media by Mr. Eniola Ojjajuni, a youth leader of Afenifere, accused that four traditional rulers in the Akoko region were related to the kidnappers.
“He also expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as the failure of the police to invite him to question and answer after his release from captivity. While the order responded to such accusations seriously, we felt the need to straighten out.
“Contrary to Mr. Ojjajuni’s statement, he was not kidnapped or freed by a kidnapper known in the State of Ondo. However, the order to work with other police commands, in accordance with his mandate to protect all citizens regardless of the status or circumstances that might facilitate his safe statement.
“This inconsistency is directly contrary to the accounts provided by his wife and siblings, all of which are contacted during the abduction period that should be.
“After his release, Mr. Ojajuni continued to ignore many invitations from the Ondo State Police Command for formal questions and answers. This question and answer can significantly assist the ongoing investigation, especially given the unusual nature of the claims around the case.
“For more details, the alleged abduction of Mr. Eniola Ojajuni remains shrouded in mystery, marked by conflicting narratives and inconsistent actions with known modus operandi about the abduction of syndicates in the state.
“Specifically, a video released by his kidnappers who is said to be during the alleged enthusiast in conflict with the behavior of such groups that were previously investigated or arrested. Intelligence collected from previous abduction cases and recognition with suspects who were arrested showed that many of these criminals did not even have a smartphone, let alone record or spread the recordings of their victims.
“These unusual details raise further questions and have the potential to endanger legitimate efforts to track and capture real criminals. We urge the public, especially people with trustworthy evidence or knowledge of criminal activities, to advance and assist the police in pursuing justice.
“The Nigerian police are a professional law enforcement agency that is committed to upholding justice without fear or assistance. Anyone who finds Culpablegard without social status will face full legal weight. However, we assert that law enforcement and criminal prosecution cannot be done on social media.
“While public discourse has a place, the right investigation and legal process remain a way to justice to justice. Online trials are often misleading, do not have the objectivity and accuracy needed to ensure justice. Security is a collective responsibility. We attract all residents in the State Ondo to continue to support the police and other security agents when we intensify our efforts to protect life and property”.
