The strong rains destroy eight buildings in Borno

On Wednesday they did not collapse of eight buildings following a torrential downpour that caused chaos through Maidugori Metropolis and Jere Local Government area of the State of Borno.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the accident in a declaration, revealing that several communities, including Gomari, Bulumkutu, Jidari and Ite, were seriously affected by the floods that followed the prolonged rains.

While no life has been lost, the destruction of the property has left many displaced and vulnerable residents. The public reporting official, Asp Kenneth Daso, said that the command immediately sent the officers to evaluate the damage, maintain the law and the order and prevent the possible looting of abandoned houses.

“To prevent any distribution of the law and the order, the command has stationed officials in strategic locations to protect houses and properties evacuated by potential looting or criminal activities”, reads the note.

The emergency response was led by the police deputy commissioner responsible for the operations, DC Garba Audu Bosso; Police commissioner assistant, ACP Jawi Muhammed; and several divisional police officers through the affected areas.

The police commissioner, the CP Naziru Abdulmajid, praised the rapid intervention of the officers and urged the residents to remain calm. He advised parents to prevent children from playing in alluvial waters, warning the dangers of drowning and exposure to water -based diseases.

The command also urged residents to report any emergencies through its dedicated bases: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
