A police officer, along with two alleged armed robbers, were reportedly killed while serving as police security officers, and the military foiled a deadly bank robbery attack in Abuja.
The gunmen had on Thursday evening attempted to rob a commercial bank, First Bank, with explosive devices in Abaji, a suburb of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
They were soon intercepted by gallant security agents.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, made this known in a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the combined operation with Nigerian Army troops was led by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igwe.
βCP Benneth Igwe himself in a combined operation with military personnel mobilized to the scene and repelled the attack carried out simultaneously on both the Abaji Divisional Police Headquarters and First Bank PLC in Abaji by a group of fifteen armed men who attacked with dynamite in an attempt to rob the bank,β Adeh said.
The statement further stated that three suspects identified as; Usman (surname still unknown), who was said to be the leader of the gang, Nuhu Musa, 41 years old from Kogi state; and Muhammed Aminu, 25 ‘m’ of Abaji, were arrested while others escaped with serious gunshot wounds, while a yet to be identified suspect was set on fire by an angry mob at the scene after being neutralized by security forces .
“A police officer and the gang leader, hit by a bullet during the firefight, were rushed to hospital and the doctor on duty confirmed their death, while others are still being treated”, reads the note .
