President Bola Tinubu has pledged to contribute his entire salary since assuming office to a special support fund dedicated to members of Nigeria’s armed forces.
Tinubu made this known when he announced the establishment of the support fund for members of the Armed Forces, those injured in service and the families of fallen heroes on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
The president announced the initiative, using the commemoration of his 74th birthday, to honor the courage, sacrifice and service of the nation’s military personnel.
He instructed the Accountant General of the Federation to establish a special account for the fund, which will provide targeted support to wounded servicemen, as well as widows, widowers and children of those who lost their lives in service to the country.
As a personal commitment, Tinubu pledged to contribute all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative, strengthening his resolve to ensure that those who have borne the cost of Nigeria’s peace and security are not forgotten.
Tinubu called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, his friends and supporters to support the initiative, stressing that details of the fund will be made available in due course.

The President, according to a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, stressed that the initiative has its roots in a solemn national obligation to care for those in danger and the families who bear the burden of their sacrifice, regardless of the insurance programs available to members of the armed forces.
President Tinubu further stated that supporting members of the Armed Forces and their families is not an act of charity, but a duty that everyone must perform.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the well-being of military personnel and ensuring that their service to the nation is accompanied by dignity, care and unwavering support.
