Ball President Ahmed Tinubu has promised his full support to the Nigerian women’s national soccer team, Super Falcons, when the team prepared to face the host Morocco in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup African Cup (Wafcon) later on Saturday.
In a statement issued by a special advisor about information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the team to “make history” by securing the 10th Continental title.
He praised the super falcons unbeaten in all tournaments, describing their campaign as “amazing” and a source of great pride for the nation.
“Your appearance in this tournament for the past three weeks has been amazing. You have represented our country with pride, honor, and strength,” the President said.
“In the field and outside the field, you have shown true sportsmanship.”
He also praised the players for the appearance of their compassion after the semifinal victory against South Africa. .
“If the statistics will win the match, you have become a champion,” he said.
“Unbeaten in the group stage, winning in the KO round, and only recognizing a goal in the semi-finals.”
He added that Nigeria’s genealogy in the competition, after winning in all nine finals before, must function as a source of further motivation.
To sustain the importance of the match, the President has sent the President’s delegation to Rabat, led by the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.
Delegations also include Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Finance; Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women’s Affairs; and Shehu Dikko, Chair of the National Sports Commission.
Super Falcons will face Morocco tonight at 21:00 local time at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
