Troops arrests 237 suspicions of oil theft, recover products for a value of N241m

No less than 237 suspected oil thieves were arrested by Nigerian troops during a series of operations conducted between 10 and 17 July 2025, through the Niger delta and other parts of the country.

The Defense headquarters, which revealed it on Friday, said that the troops also recovered oil products worth more than N241 million, together with a transport of weapons, ammunition and illegal refining equipment.

The director, the defense media operations, the main general Markus Kangye, in a declaration, explained that coordinated operations aimed at theft of oil, terrorism, kidnapping and trade in illegal weapons in different regions.

According to Kangye, during the incursions of the anti-oil theft, the troops confiscated 230,400 liters of stolen crude oil, 13,000 liters of illegally refined automotive gas oil (needle) and 2,500 liters of premium motor spirit (PMS).

He added that the safety personnel also dismantled several illegal refining fields, destroying 30 Rancoggio Petrolio Kitchen ovens, 28 shelter wells, 14 storage drums, 7 large tanks, 8 vehicles, 2 boats and 14 illegal refineries.

In addition to the oil corridor, the troops recorded important discoveries in the fight against terrorism and kidnapping. Between 18 and 20 July, the troops arrested a well -known terrorist, Muhammadu Hamisu, popularly known as Mamiyo, together with five others during authorization operations in the state of Sokoto.

The articles recovered from the band included weapons, illegal drugs, motorcycles and money for a total of ₦ 192,300.

Kangye also revealed that on July 16 the troops arrested a well-known associate of a violent extremist leader responsible for attacks and kidnappings around the axis of the Federal University Wukari and Jootar-Wukari in the state of Taraba.

A suspicious informant for the unions of the kidnapping, identified as Kachalla Shuaibu, was arrested in the area of the local government of Kabba-Bunu in the state of Kogi.

In another operation led by intelligence in the area of the local government of Sanga in the state of Kaduna on July 19, the troops arrested a gunrunner, Haruna Abdullahi, with 350 shots of special 7.62 mm ammunition in his possession.

During the same week, the military also saved 139 victims of kidnappings and arrested another 49 suspicions, including terrorists, logistics suppliers and kidnappers.

The headquarters of the defense reiterated its commitment to restore peace and security throughout the country, soliciting citizens to continue supporting the armed forces with credible information.
