Troops neutralize five terrorists, free hostages in Sokoto

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, Nigerian Army troops engaged in counter-terrorism operations in Sokoto State successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt.

In a decisive firefight in Baniguntu and Gohonau forest area of ​​Gudu Local Government Area, troops eliminated 5 terrorists and rescued 2 hostages held captive by the group.

Responding promptly to a distress call, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire, which led to the neutralization of the attackers. Some terrorists fled the scene with injuries sustained during the clash.

The rescued hostages, identified as Nura Isya and Saluhu Hamza, were released from captivity and promptly handed over to the Chairman of Gudu Local Government Area for medical treatment and reunification with their families.

The operation also led to the recovery of a large quantity of armaments, including 5 AK-47 rifles, 32 rounds of ammunition and a Tecno phone, thus disrupting the activities of the terrorist cell.
