Trump lists Nigeria, 35 other countries in the proposal to expand the Travel ban on the United States

The United States could soon impose new travel restrictions on Nigeria and 35 other countries following a new directive considered by the administration of President Donald Trump.

This development emerged during the weekend through a note from the United States Department of State, dated Saturday 14 June and signed by the Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The document, which was sent to the US embassies globally, outlines concerns about what the Trump administration defines as “safety risks and non -compliance with immigration” associated with the listed countries.

According to the Memo, the affected nations, including Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Ethiopia and another 21 African states, have received a 60 -day deadline to respect new benchmark of immigration and security of the United States or risk facing full or partial views.

The directive also addresses the Central Asia and the Pacific Islands, such as Antigua and Barbuda, Santa Lucia, Cambogia and Tonga.

Among the key criteria mentioned in the note are the inability of some governments to issue reliable identity documents, lack of cooperation in the repatriation processes, prevalence of fraud of documents and high American visa rates.

“Some of these countries do not have competent or cooperative central government authority capable of producing verifiable civil documents,” said the memo.

According to reports, others allow the acquisition of citizenship through financial investments without any requirement of residence: a practice that the United States government considers a security escapade.

The accusations of “anti-American or anti-Semitic activities” related to the people of some of the listed countries have also been mentioned as part of the justification for imminent restrictions.

The document also notes that any nation willing to take out an “Safe Terre Safe Country” agreement or accept the citizens of the third country removed by the United States can be exempt from the travel ban.

Although no implementation date has been announced, the sources cited by the Washington Post have suggested that failure to comply with the directive could lead to rapid application.

The latter move marks a significant expansion of the United States immigration policy on June 4, which imposed complete travel prohibitions on countries including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Libya and Iran and partial restrictions on others such as Cuba, Venezuela and Laos.

Complete list of the 36 countries dealing with the potential travel ban:
