Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s fight is confirmed to be held in New York

The long-awaited heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is confirmed to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Tyson Fury confirmed the development on Instagram with a poster of himself and Joshua set against the New York City skyline. However, there is no date attached to the post.

“What a place NYC, and what a place MSG, and what a fight Fury vs AJ, land of opportunity,” Fury wrote.

“What a weekend for young people pissing in NYC. Iconic! Coming soon, guys.”

Joshua was not tagged in the post, and neither the two-time world champion nor his promoter, Matchroom Boxing, had confirmed the development at the time of this report.

The fight is expected to take place in November, with November 20 considered the target date, after both fighters signed contracts with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

Joshua’s original terms stipulated that the fight should take place in England, but organizers Netflix and Alalshikh pushed for the fight in the United States, so his promoter, Eddie Hearn, entered into new negotiations to allow the fight to be moved to America.

Hearn said Joshua’s team remains opposed to holding the fight outside the UK but understands it has to work for all parties involved.

The 38-year-old Fury has won 36 of his professional fights, with his only defeat coming in back-to-back fights against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. He returned to the ring in July, stopping Polish opponent Mariusz Wach in a warm-up fight in Pattaya, Thailand, having previously retired from the sport following his second loss to Usyk.

Joshua won his warm-up fight on July 25 over Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, a development Hearn said helped pave the way for progress in talks with Fury’s camp.

Plans for a Fury-Joshua fight first fell through in 2021 after an American judge ruled that Fury should face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight.
