To address the scourge of malnutrition in the state, the United Nations Children’s Fund on Wednesday handed over 7,000 cartons of ready-to-use therapeutic foods to the Katsina State government.
Speaking during the programme, UNICEF Representative for Nigeria, Ms. Cristian Mundiate, described the RUTF as a life-saving solution for malnourished children.
He noted that “with this initiative we hope to save as many lives as possible not only in Katsina State but across Nigeria.”
According to Mundiate, UNICEF is committed to fighting the scourge of malnutrition.
He added that UNICEF is willing to provide additional funding for the project if the government allocates more funds to the health sector and builds more primary health care centres in communities.
The UNICEF Executive Director also explained that “it is important to know that we have to take care of our children.
In receiving the supplements, Gov. Dikko Radda acknowledged what he described as a high number of malnourished children in the state.
The governor said: “There is a need because we have a high number of malnourished children across the country.
“All this to address the problem. And today we launched and 8,000 children will benefit from this gesture and we will continue to do this partnership and provide supplements to our children.”
