US House members question Keyamo over airport infrastructure damage

The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation on Wednesday questioned Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on the deterioration of infrastructure at the country’s airports.

The committee chairman, Abdullah Garba, questioned the minister during a meeting with ministry officials in Abuja.

He said the state of infrastructure at local and international airports was worrying and required urgent government intervention.

The lawmaker stressed that the safety of personnel and stakeholders at the country’s airports was paramount.

He added that the committee’s main task is to identify equipment and other items needed to revitalize the aviation sector.

Meanwhile, Keyamo said the level of infrastructure deterioration at the country’s airports was a serious issue of concern to the ministry.

However, he assured the committee that the ministry was compiling a list of equipment for safety at the country’s airports.

Regarding the awarding of contracts by the ministry, he told the committee that most of the contracts awarded by the ministry were still ongoing projects.

The chairman and other invited stakeholders then hold an executive session to discuss issues of concern to lawmakers.
