Warri-Itakpe train derailment: three dead in Agbor, Delta…

Three people have died after the Warri-Itakpe train service derailed in Agbor, Delta State, on Monday morning.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation NRC confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Managing Director Kayode Opeifa.

–What NRC says–

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirms that an accident involving the Warri-Itakpe train service (WITS) occurred today,” the statement read.

“Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently on site to deal with the situation and provide necessary assistance.”

Opeifa said the company is “closely monitoring developments” and a detailed statement will follow as soon as more information becomes available.

It added that authorities were assessing “all the circumstances of the accident, while support is provided to the affected passengers”.

“The thoughts and prayers of all Nigerians are with the victims and their loved ones,” the statement read.

The Presidency urged the public to “rely only on verified information and official updates from the Nigerian Railway Corporation as investigations and response efforts continue”.

The Warri-Itakpe line is a key passenger and cargo route connecting Delta to Kogi.
