Wike holds the grip on rivers policy while the allies dominate PDP, the APC tickets before the LG polls

With the lealists who ensure tickets to the Democratic Party (PDP) and all progressives (APC) for the local government’s elections of 30 August in the State of the rivers, the Minister of the Territory of the Federal capital, Nyesom Wike, seems to have recovered the dominion over the political machine of the State – the same arena of his amaretto with the governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The launch of the PDP campaign to Port Harcourt on Wednesday was transformed into a public show of loyalty to the former governor, while the president of the party Aaron Chukwuemeka and the speaker of the Chamber of the Assembly Martin Amawle praised Wike.

“Let me exploit this opportunity to thank our leader, Mr Wike, who made this flag today a success,” Chukwuemeka said. Amawhule, flanked by 26 legislators in favor of the shirt, echoed the feeling, calling Wike “our political leader, our father”.

In particular, the governor Fubara and his loyalists were absent, except for a background of the campaign with his image.

Wike control extends beyond the PDP, while the president of the APC of Rivers Tony Okocha – also a faithful ally – is firmly in his field.

Wike chose Fubara by hand as his successor in 2023, but the alliance collapsed within five months, dividing the assembly of 32 members into 27 members in favor of the Wike and only four faithful to the governor.

The feud, which resisted presidential peace interventions, has turned into courts in court after Pro-Wike legislators deserted in the APC.

In Defiance, Fubara has conducted elections of the local government who installed its allies in the 23 short-duration victory.

In a decisive sentence, the Supreme Court canceled the polls, restored the legislators in favor of the Wike, invalidated the governor’s bill and ordered a freezing of federal allocations to the State until Fubara has a budget at the restored assembly.
