Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to address erosion challenges and complete an abandoned road project in Abaji area council.
He also announced the empowerment of traditional rulers in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
Wike made the pledges on Tuesday during an thanksgiving visit to Abaji on behalf of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the council’s overwhelming support for the president during the February 21, 2026 council elections in the nation’s capital.
Addressing residents of the area and other stakeholders, the minister commended the citizens for keeping their promise to support the administration, stressing that their massive turnout demonstrated their commitment.
“Out of 135 polling units, you gave Mr. President 133 polling units. What else can we say other than thank you. Now you have done yours and we will do ours too,” Wike said.
Responding to requests made by the prime minister, the minister assured residents that the federal government will address erosion problems affecting two communities and complete the abandoned road project in the area.
“Mr President, the Abaji-Ebagi community, the two erosion sites and the abandoned road project will be completed,” he said.
Wike also directed the Prime Minister to commence the project of a befitting palace for the Ona of Abaji, while announcing the elevation of traditional stools throughout the council.
“All the second-class traditional rulers have been promoted to the first class, and all the third-class rulers have been promoted to the second class because they have worked hard and deserve it,” he said.
The minister also assured residents that the long-awaited Abaji University of Science and Technology will become operational under the current administration, adding that the project will create jobs and open up the city to greater development.
