‘Wike’s show of shame does not deserve a response’, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to comments made by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesome Wike by stating that “such a show of shame is not worthy of response”.

The opposition party in a statement issued by the interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said that the minister was treating Nigerians with an “undesirable overdose of political delinquency, moral emptiness, crass opportunism and post-defeat trauma”.

Wike in a press conference said, “Any bank that allows the Turaki-led PDP to open an account for the sale of nomination forms will be in trouble. If Turaki puts his name and signature on the bank account, he will be stripped of his mantle as SAN. And any property that allows them to use it as PDP headquarters, I will confiscate it because it is a fraud.” — Nyesom Wike

Responding, Ememobong said, “The minister, a public figure, funded a media convergence where he abandoned civility and slandered prominent Nigerians in a reckless manner. The session was “full of sound and fury, meaning nothing.”

“That show of shame is not warranted; therefore, this statement is not a response to his tirade, which was indeed his political hymn and the last kick of a dying horse. This statement is more a profuse apology to the people of Nigeria for giving a platform to someone whose behavior, speeches and reasoning have not only been a national but also an international disgrace. We must admit that if we do not use our platform to make him Chairman, Minister of State and Governor, this nation will be spared unmitigated damage done to the souls of many Nigeria.

“We warn those he has slandered to seek legal redress, because no one is above the law, and should be allowed to be above the law.

“As the legitimate leader of our political party, we sympathize with Wike for the suffering he is experiencing along with the realization that he cannot and will never be the National Leader of our party, as such a position does not exist in our constitution; and even if he were, he, through his conduct and words, would not be sufficient to assume such a noble office.

“We understand his frustration over the commencement of the form sale and activities to organize primaries and ultimately a national convention where a credible Nigerian will emerge as the Presidential Candidate. This means that he has failed to fulfill his promise to “hold” the party to its basic funds. The form sale is ongoing, and Wike cannot do anything about this. His delusional boast about dealing with a bank that will open an account for us is delusional, because he already knows that we operate the party account, which is why his group of friends received the money through personal account.

“Regarding the issues he raised regarding the judgment, pending the publication of the Certified Original Copy of the rejected cross-appeal, we would be happy for the Minister to tell the world what the relief is in the cross-appeal filed by his friends, and what the court decision was.

“Nigerians believe that no threat can scare away the truth, and although lies like those spewed by Wike spread faster than the truth, that will not diminish the power of the truth when it arrives.”
