A woman was killed in a collision between two Iveco trucks that were laden with iron in the Ita Oluwo area in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Saturday.
General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (Lastma), Mr. Olarekan Bakare-Oki, revealed this in a statement in Ikeja.
He said the woman, who was trapped among the articulated trucks, was issued with the help of Lastma and Lagos Fire and Rescue Service officers.
Other people who help include Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and officers from the Nigerian police.
Bakare-Oki said police officers from the Ogijo Division evacuated the victim and took him to the Hospital of the Ogun State University of Education in Sagamu.
He added that the accident caused a serious injury, a vehicle that was destroyed, and triggered a quick response by emergency services at the scene.
GM said: “Initial findings by Lastma revealed that the accident was produced from brake failure in one of the trucks, yes 701 AAA, which reportedly was speeding.
“Vehicles outside the control crashed into another truck on the same route and triggered a high -impact collision.
“The power of the accident is very damaging to the two vehicles and triggers panic among road users and residents.”
Bakare-Oki expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and called the accident a reminder of dangers related to vehicle errors and driver’s carelessness.
“This tragic event underlined the urgent need for strict compliance with road safety steps, especially among heavy and full task truck operators,” said Bos Lastma.
