Zulum blamed a condition of a condition in the drug market, swearing hard action throughout the state

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, on Monday associating the new suicide bombing in the regional government of the Conduct with the prevalence of the drug market, promised to enforce the prohibition on the sale of alcohol and drugs in all 27 regional government areas in the state.

The governor made this declaration during the sympathy visit to the community, where he promised hard action throughout the upper state of all illegal drug markets, not approved structures, and locations that were known to facilitate criminal activities. The visit followed the tragic incident on June 20, 2025, when a suicide bomber detonated explosives in the Condempir, produced 12 deaths and 18 injuries.

Speaking during his visit, Zulum expressed his condolences and outlines the determination of government companies. “We are here to sympathize with the victims of the bomb explosion that occurred in Konduga. The previous delegation visited to sympathize with the victims, but I had come personally to express my condolences,” he said.

He then linked the bombing directly with illegal activities in the area: “More importantly, the previous government directed that illegal activities should not occur in the area. However, around the explosion site is known as a combination where people sell cannabis and are involved in various criminal acts. The previous community reported this and asked for firm government actions.”

The governor stressed that the warning had been issued for those who operate the joint. “The government, through the task force on the prohibition and sale of drugs and unauthorized structural operations, has warned those who operate such joints to empty. Unfortunately, they ignore the warning. I urge the people’s conditional and the general public to quit such activities,” he warned.

Zulum also highlighted the transfer of drug operators from Maiduguri, noting that “Many illegal drug operators who were previously removed from Maiduguri have now moved to rural areas such as Konduga, where their activities continue to be out of control.”

He asserted that the state government will collaborate with the Borno state council to ensure the full enforcement of the new executive order is signed which prohibits illegal activities such as the sale and prostitution of the cannabis (India), expanding its reach outside Maiduguri to cover the entire state.

According to the Governor, the Council Council is scheduled to review and strengthen state sanitation laws on Tuesday. “The revised law will empower law enforcement agencies to capture violators without a warrant and ensure its enforcement in all 27 regional regions in the state,” he said.

In addition, Governor Zulum announced the formation of a high-powered committee which specifically was tasked with identifying and killing drug centers throughout the state of Borno.

He issued a stern warning to the violators: “The structure that stores illegal drug activities will be destroyed, and violators are arrested and prosecuted. The government will not fold a weapon while the criminals are endangering life. All joints where marijuana and other illegal drugs will be prevented, and the perpetrators will be handled thus. Priority,” he warned.
