11 dead in accident on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway

No fewer than 11 people have been confirmed dead in an accident on the Eruku Bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.

Confirming the accident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oludare Ogunjobi, said the accident which occurred on Sunday night involved a gold colored Toyota vehicle with registration number GGE 722 KJ.

Ogunjobi said the vehicle somersaulted and fell off the bridge, trapping all occupants inside while the doors were closed.

Ogunjobi said FRSC personnel from Itori Unit Command were immediately dispatched to the scene for rescue operations.

The sector commander said that all 11 occupants of the vehicle died in the crash, including 10 adult males and one adult female.

“FRSC personnel, with the support of local community members, dismantled the vehicle to recover the bodies of the victims,” he said.

Ogunjobi added that the dead bodies had been deposited at the mortuary of the State Specialist Hospital in Ifo area of ​​Ogun State.

He advised motorists traveling on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway to exercise caution, especially when traveling at night.
