2024 Olympics qualifiers: Super Falcons force Ethiopia’s Lucy to a 1-1 draw

Super Falcons of Nigeria shared the spoils with Ethiopia in the first leg of 2024 Olympics Women’s football  qualifiers at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa.

The hosts came into the game with full confidence after beating Chad 10-0 on aggregate in the previous round.

The Lucy drew the first blood on the 6 minutes as Birkie Amare capitalized on sloppy defending by Super Falcons to make it 1-0.

The Ethiopians defended their lead and deservedly went into half time break with the slander advantage.

Super Falcons, however, leveled the game four minutes after resumption with fine volley from Atletico Madrid’s star RasheedatAjibade.

Both teams found it hard to create many opportunities in a tight first period, though had the ball at the back of the net towards the end of the game, but it was ruled out by the officials.

Algerian referee Lamia Atman spotted foul play in the build-up and disallowed the goal.

Both teams will clash again at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, with the winner on aggregate to proceed to the third round, where the winner of the Cameroon/Uganda fixture awaits.
