2027: Kachikwu emerges as ADC presidential candidate

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was made on Sunday during a special national convention held in Abuja, where the faction also unveiled its new leadership structure.

The group, led by newly elected national president Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, announced Kachikwu as its flagbearer amid ongoing leadership disputes within the party.

The convention came hours before another ADC presidential primary scheduled by the faction led by Senator David Mark, recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his acceptance speech, Kachikwu he pledged to run a campaign based on themes focused on national unity, economic recovery and inclusive governance.

He said Nigeria is facing critical challenges that require urgent attention to insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship and social divisions.

Kachikwu also criticized what he described as a political system that benefits only a few, calling for reforms that prioritize the well-being of citizens.

He highlighted the need for merit-based leadership and greater inclusion of women and youth in governance.

ADC faction chairman Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir urged unity within the party and insisted that no individual is bigger than the organisation.

He also praised Kachikwu’s composure during the party’s crisis, describing him as a candidate capable of strengthening the platform ahead of 2027.
