2027: Makinde emerges as APM’s presidential candidate

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday, emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for the 2027 general elections.

Makinde, who received the nomination at the APM presidential primaries, held in Ibadan, promised to reform the national security architecture if elected president next year.

He stressed that his administration would prioritize decentralizing security management to allow individual states to have control over the security architecture.

“The safety and security of the Nigerian people will never be considered a political slogan. Under my leadership, this will be a sacred national responsibility,” Makinde said.

The governor noted that insecurity, hunger and the high cost of living in the country show that the country must make changes.

He argues that recycling old approaches will not produce new results.

Makinde also promised practical economic reforms centered on honesty, discipline and transparency.

He stressed that Nigerians should benefit from oil wealth like citizens of other resource-producing countries, and called for a fair, transparent and appropriate pricing structure for petroleum products.
