
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday received a major political boost as leaders, delegates and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District formally unveiled and endorsed him as the consensus candidate of the area for the 2027 senatorial elections.
The endorsement, described by party leaders as a collective decision aimed at ensuring quality representation and sustaining party unity in the district, was witnessed by top APC leaders, including the party’s consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors and other senior stakeholders across Ogun East.
Present at the event were former Deputy Governors, Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun and Gbenga Kaka, Chairman of Ogun State APC, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Vice President, Chief James Dina, Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha, and Chairman of APC in Ogun East, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.
While introducing Governor Abiodun to leaders and stakeholders in the area, the former deputy governor, Segun Adesegun, said members of the party across the district unanimously endorsed the governor as the consensus candidate of the APC for Ogun East Senatorial District.
Senator Lekan Mustapha, on his part, said the adoption of Governor Abiodun was a collective decision of the people of the district to ensure effective and quality representation in the National Assembly.
He recalled the Ogun East stakeholders meeting held on April 20, where district leaders unanimously adopted Governor Abiodun as the party’s preferred senatorial candidate, stressing that Tuesday’s meeting was convened to formally communicate the decision to the governor and the party leadership.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the APC in Ogun East, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin, formally handed over the governorship to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urging the state leadership to forward her name to the national secretariat of the party as the flag bearer of the APC for Ogun East Senatorial District.
Reacting to the approval, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed deep appreciation to the leaders, stakeholders and delegates of Ogun East Senatorial District for the confidence reposed in him, describing the consensual agreement as a demonstration of unity, political maturity and shared commitment to the progress of the district and Ogun State.
The Governor said he was deeply humbled by the overwhelming support and pledged not to betray the trust placed in him by the people and leadership of the APC in Ogun East.
He assured party faithful and residents of the district that if elected to represent Ogun East in the Senate, he would provide purposeful, people-oriented and quality representation, capable of attracting greater development and democratic dividends to the area.
Governor Abiodun also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unprecedented support he has received from the Ogun State Government since he assumed office, commending leaders in the area for prioritizing unity and cohesion, stressing that adopting a consensus candidate would further strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals and programs of the party, while vowing to continue to work closely with stakeholders across the senatorial district to sustain the developmental gains already recorded in Ogun State.
The Governor equally appreciated Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors, party leaders, elders and stakeholders for their support and solidarity, assuring them that the APC will remain united and victorious in the state.
