2nd Kano Cycling is held on December 12

Following the success of its first edition, Cycling Africa, in collaboration with the Kano State Government, has announced that the second edition of Cycling Kano will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2026 in Kano.

The event, which will be held under the theme, ““Water is Life,” aims to promote cycling while raising awareness about access to drinking water, water conservation, and the impact of climate change.

The inaugural 2025 edition attracted over 1,000 cyclists and enthusiasts from across the country, marking a major milestone for competitive cycling in northern Nigeria.

Cycling Africa president and CEO Bamidele Adeleye said in a statement released on Tuesday that the 2026 edition would build on the success of the debut event with expanded competitive categories, increased road safety and a greater emphasis on discovering grassroots talent.

Adeleye commended the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for supporting the initiative, noting that the partnership demonstrated the potential of sports to promote youth participation, economic inclusion and healthy living.

“Following the extraordinary performances we witnessed in 2025, from professional cyclists like Isa Momoh to young talents like Mubarak Auwal and Islam Yau Abubakar, we are looking forward to offering an even greater platform for athletes to shine while championing a cause that affects us all,” he said.

He added that the event would go beyond competition to promote environmental awareness and community participation.

“The second edition of Cycling Kano represents our commitment to building a lasting cycling culture in northern Nigeria, and this year we cycle with a purpose,” Adeleye said.

According to him, the theme “Water is life” aims to encourage conversations about access to drinking water, its conservation and the effects of climate change in urban and rural communities.

He added that the race will begin at the historic Emir’s Palace, traverse key routes through the Kano metropolis and end at a location that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the state.

Adeleye said organizers would also introduce promotional activities along the route, including water conservation awareness points and collaborations with environmental and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) organisations.

He said a registration portal would be launched in November to allow interested participants to register for the event.

Organizers hope the competition will attract cyclists, cycling clubs, sports enthusiasts and families from Kano and other parts of the country.

The event is expected to further promote competitive cycling in northern Nigeria while showcasing the sport’s potential as a platform for healthy living, environmental sustainability and community development.
