43 arrested as police destroy criminal hideouts in Ogun

About forty-three suspects have been arrested by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Ogun State Police Command during a coordinated raid on notorious criminal hideouts in the state.

This was confirmed in a press release made available to journalists in Abeokuta by the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, at the weekend.

According to the statement, the arrest was part of the command’s ‘Operation Kosaye’ assault on criminals in the state, adding that hard drugs, ten mobile phones and other incriminating exhibits were recovered from the suspects.

“The operation was conducted at around 11pm on July 7, 2026, following credible intelligence that a notorious black spot located around Isheri-Olofin, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway opposite Kara Cattle Market, had become a haven for criminal elements involved in cult-related activities, drug abuse, prostitution and other crimes.

“Acting quickly on intelligence, SWAT Commander, CSP Murphy, deployed officers to execute a coordinated raid on the scene.

“The operation led to the arrest of forty-three suspects, comprising twenty-eight men and fifteen women. A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, “Loud” and other hard drugs, ten mobile phones, four power banks, a rechargeable fan, a shoulder bag containing two ATM cards and a national identity card, along with other exhibits reasonably suspected to be linked to criminal activities.

“Following a diligent investigation, all forty-three suspects were charged to court and detained at the appropriate penitentiary.

“They are being prosecuted for offenses bordering on criminal conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society, unlawful assembly, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, disorderly conduct, unlawful possession and use of suspected cannabis, prostitution, running and operating an unlicensed brothel, living on the earnings of prostitution and other related offenses under the relevant laws of Ogun State.

“The investigations have also revealed that some of the suspects are providing the Police with useful information relating to other criminal cases currently being investigated by the Command. Follow-up operations are underway to arrest other suspects and unravel further criminal networks linked to the cases.

“The Command further revealed that with the prosecution of the forty-three suspects arrested during this latest incursion, the total number of suspects charged to court since the start of Operation KOSAYE has risen to seventy-six, comprising thirty-three suspects prosecuted during the initial phase of the operation and the additional forty-three suspects charged following this latest enforcement action.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has commended the professionalism, discipline, resilience and operational effectiveness of the SWAT officers, describing the operation as another significant milestone in the continued implementation of Operation KOSAYE.

“The PC reaffirmed that Ogun State will remain a hostile terrain for criminals and warned that criminal hideouts, drug dealings, brothels used as fronts for criminal activities, cult enclaves and other black spots will continue to be identified, looted and dismantled.

“He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with timely, credible and actionable intelligence, assuring them that the command will support intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations and strategic community partnerships to protect lives, secure property and preserve peace and public order,” the statement read.
