The West African Examinations Council (WaEC) examined the results of 2025 West African Senior Certificate Examination (Wassce) initially published on Monday, following widespread public protests.
Waec’s head of the Nigeria (Hno) office, Amos Josiah Dangut, who revealed it to Lagos journalists on Friday, said that the updated results show a significant improvement in the performance of the candidates, with 62.96 percent now recorded how to have credits and in addition to at least five topics, including the English language and mathematics.
Dangut said that the review was driven by the concerns raised on the initial results, which reported a passage rate of only 38.32 percent in five topics, including English and mathematics.
He added that the reviews reviewed showed that 1,239,884, which represent 62.96 percent of the candidates, have obtained credits and in addition to at least five subjects.
“The Council took immediate measures to face the concerns raised by the interested parties. After a meticulous revision of the examination process and results, we are pleased to announce that 62.96 percent of the candidates reached credits and in addition to a minimum of five topics, including the compulsory English language and mathematics”, said dr. Dangut.
The Hno expressed that Waec felt sorry for the previous mistake, caused by the errors of the team of service providers who have marked the objective part of the examination of the English language. He observed that the regional exam body was deeply sorry for errors, exhorting candidates to check the new results 48 hours later.
