‘You are a traitor,’ Netizens slam Kenneth Okonkwo for dumping Obi

Nigerian social media users have slammed former Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Organisation spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo after he left the party and criticised the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi for his approach to party issues.

The popular Nollywood actor who announced his decision to leave LP on Sunday, accused Obi of lacking the leadership skills to resolve the internal crisis rocking the party.

According to the actor-turned-politician, Obi did little to build the party and resolve the party’s leadership crisis because he was weak and lacked the skills to be a leader.

He said: “I was like, does this mean Peter Obi doesn’t realise that without a solid party base, we are not going anywhere politically?”

“However, I still defended him, believing that he would still personally provide the needed solution to the LP problem, but to no avail.

“The PO also openly demanded that the Abure-led National Working Committee hold an inclusive convention that would ensure the participation of all Labour Party members in choosing their leader.

“This did not happen, and shockingly, the PO refused to disassociate themselves from the crimes and criminal activities of the former NWC as their tenure has expired.

“Every Labour Party member is confused about the future of the Labour Party at the moment because of the lack of leadership from the PO towards the party, and unfortunately, when they ask me to tell them about the PO’s view, I really have nothing to tell them because I don’t know it myself.

“I cannot continue to speak for a leader whose stance I do not know on very important issues. I do not know how to manipulate facts.

“I am surprised that PO cannot openly support the noble efforts of the Labor Union in establishing the Labor Party as a basis for fighting for workers’ welfare, to the point that some people openly say that PO is now a problem for LP.

“The Trade Union is now facing an unfortunate situation, where they have to fight criminals who want to hijack their party, when a normal statement from the PO should have provided a solution. I cannot continue to be ambivalent like this.”

However, Okonkwo’s decision to leave the prison is seen by many as a betrayal of his former principal.
