When NATV’s Dblackbuddha caught up with Nigerian comic Funnybone in Manchester, he seemed to be struggling to adapt to the cold, damp climes of North-West England. As part of Basketmouth’s Lord of the Ribs tour, Funnybone has been travelling the length and breadth of Britain, but it seems like he’s enjoying himself too much to let the weather cast a cloud over him as he jokes “Naija boys could survive anywhere, even the moon!”. Actually, he’s only half-joking, because, as he explains how he grew up it tough circumstances in an area where Boko Haram is now waging it’s brutal insurgency. “I grew up in the streets, but I refused to remain in the streets.” is how he puts it eloquently in his own words. So, adapting and surviving is nothing new to Funnybone, and he is continuing in that spirit right up to the present day in his professional life as he uses his talent to take himself to the next level – “Forward ever, backward never”. After 15 years on the comedy circuit, Funnybone is certainly reaping the rewards from his hard work and dedication, but he’s not one to take himself to seriously and concern himself only with shop-talk.
