‘I don’t have a murder case on my neck,’ replied Doguwa Jibrin.

Member of the House of Representatives for Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in Kano State, Alhassan Doguwa, said on Thursday there was no murder case against him.

The lawmaker was reacting to the murder allegation against him by his colleague from Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, Abdulmumini Jibrin.

The two lawmakers have recently been at odds and have exchanged angry words in public.

Jubrin on Tuesday confirmed that he helped Doguwa secure a majority seat in the House of Representatives in 2019.

He also asserted that his rivals could not win a credible election in the state.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday, Doguwa argued that the court had dismissed the charges and acquitted him.

He said: “I affirm that from today, I, Doguwa, will not stand in any court in Nigeria on charges of murder, premeditated murder.”

He added that there were no cases implicating him in politically motivated violence, contrary to claims by some parties.

“I went through almost all criminal investigations and legal considerations at various levels and came out as a clean and innocent defendant.

“A copy of the rigorous police investigation conducted by the highest police investigation authority in the country, the Police Criminal Investigation Department, is available for public scrutiny,” the lawmaker added.

He insisted that his political enemies inside and outside his constituency had failed in their plans to impeach him for what he did not do.

“For the information of Jibrin and his colleagues, based on the police clearance, the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Justice in Kano State acted and issued an advisory to release me.

“I was acquitted of any criminal charges,” he said.

Doguwa said the crisis in his constituency was engineered to destroy his political ambitions.
