Lookman fails to score as Mbappe helps Madrid beat Atalanta and win Super Cup

Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman was in action for Atalanta but failed to score as they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

Lookman, who scored three goals in the Europa League final, saw his efforts at the Warsaw stadium negated as Kylian Mbappe was in fine form for Real.

Mbappe, who joined the Spanish giants this summer after a successful move from Paris St Germain, opened the scoring on his debut for the reigning Champions League holders.

After a goalless first half, Federico Valverde broke the deadlock in the 59th minute before Mbappe doubled the lead nine minutes later.

Atalanta’s record in finals is not great. Last season’s Europa League win over Bayer Leverkusen was their second trophy.

The Italian giants have lost five Coppa Italia finals since they won it in 1963.

For Real Madrid, they have successfully won a record sixth UEFA Super Cup.

Real Madrid captain Luka Modric now has 26 trophies to his name, becoming the Spanish giants’ most decorated player.
