Supreme Court postpones decision in Bayelsa, Kogi governorship elections

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the decision in the Bayelsa and Kogi state gubernatorial elections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate duo, Timipre Sylva and his Social Democratic Party (SDP) counterpart, Murtala Ajaka, are challenging the results of the November 2023 elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Douye Diri and Usman as the winners of the elections in the two states.

Dissatisfied with the announcement, the petitioners approached the high court and the appellate court to quash the statement.

Both courts affirmed Diri and Ododo’s victory in the vote.

The appellants then applied to the Supreme Court to annul the announcement.

However, in its ruling on Monday, the top court said it had deferred its ruling on the matter until a date to be communicated to the parties.
