Getafe’s new sensation Uche is out of the Super Eagles’ AFCON qualifiers; Tella returns

The list of players who will represent the Nigeria senior national team in their upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda respectively is expected to be made public next week, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The Super Eagles will begin their quest to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a home game against Benin Republic on September 7 before travelling to Rwanda three days later for their second match of the series.

The NFF technical department has sent a preliminary invitation to 35 players for the game, and incoming team coach Janne Andersson is expected to narrow it down to 25 and make it public next week.

We can exclusively confirm that Uche Chrisantus, who made a strong impression for Getafe with a goal in the 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in his first game for the team, and also in the top flight of Spanish football, has not received an invitation.

According to sources, Uche will be monitored for a future invitation if he continues his good form at Getafe, a team he joined towards the end of last season from Cueta in the Spanish third division.

Sources also confirmed that Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella is back in the squad after being excused from the last call-up which featured in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively.
