Nigerian government inaugurates team to improve transparency in electricity sector

The Federal Government on Wednesday inaugurated the Power Sector Communication Team (PSCT) to enhance transparency and communication in the power sector.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Power House in Abuja, was presided over by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

β€œPSCT is a strategic initiative designed to bridge the gap between the electricity and public sectors,” said Adelabu.

β€œThe electricity sector, often misunderstood and fraught with challenges, requires a platform for clear and consistent communication to build trust and confidence.”

He further explained that PSCT aims to translate complex technical issues into easy-to-understand language, encourage collaboration between stakeholders, and create a positive narrative around the electricity sector.

β€œPSCT is not just a team; it is a commitment to excellence in communication,” Adelabu stressed.

β€œWe envision a Nigeria where electricity is not just a luxury, but a basic right. To achieve this, we must work together, and effective communication is key.”

PSCT Chairman Bolaji Tunji expressed his enthusiasm for the reactivation of the team, noting that while the idea of PSCT is not new, its revival signals a renewed commitment to addressing the sector’s communication challenges. β€œOur vision is to change the perception of the electricity sector by providing consistent, honest and insightful information that highlights the ongoing progress and challenges within the sector,” Tunji said.

Tunji highlighted several strategic initiatives that PSCT will undertake, including a national campaign focused on educating the public on critical issues in the electricity sector such as energy theft and vandalism. β€œOur goal is to empower citizens with the knowledge to understand their role in safeguarding electricity infrastructure and inspire collective action against these detrimental practices,” he explained.

β€œBy working together, we can create a brighter and more electric future for Nigeria,” Adelabu concluded.
