Matawalle orders military to arrest killers of Sokoto district chief

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, on Friday, tasked the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to arrest the killers of the Gatawa District Chief in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Bawa.

The district chief was kidnapped with his son in the Kwanar Maharba area of ​​Sokoto on July 26 and killed by their kidnappers more than three weeks later.

A video of Bawa tied up by his kidnappers and pleading with the state government to pay the ransom demanded by the bandits was released during the week.

The minister made the call in a statement issued in Abuja by the ministry’s director of information and public relations, Henshaw Ogubike.

Matawalle described the killing of the district chief as a heinous and unacceptable act.

He said: “Bawa’s killing was a senseless and brutal act that will not be tolerated. We will do everything we can to ensure those responsible are held to account.

“Therefore, the Chief of Defence must immediately launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“Security is one of President Bola Tinubu’s top agendas and he has given his full support to the military.”

He assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces would arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bring them to justice.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians,” he added.
