Boniface shines as Leverkusen begins to defend their league title with a spectacular win over Monchengladbach

Victor Boniface played for Bayer Leverkusen, who began the defence of their Bundesliga title with a dramatic 3-2 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday night.

Boniface was in the starting lineup before being replaced eight minutes from the end of the match. Nathan Tella was a substitute and did not play.

Despite letting a 2-0 lead slip, Leverkusen managed to score in added time, thanks to Florian Wirtz, to secure a victory on Matchday 1.

Granit Xhaka put Leverkusen ahead in the 12th minute, while Wirtz made it 2-0 in the 38th minute.

With three minutes remaining in the first half, Mönchengladbach thought they had reduced the deficit, but Tim Kleindienst’s goal was disallowed by VAR.

The home team did not give up and finally scored in the 59th minute through Nico Elvedi.

In the 85th minute Kleindienst made it 2-2, but Wirtz won for Leverkusen in the 11th minute of added time.
