Katsina govt begins anti-terrorism operations in 19 autonomous areas

The Katsina State government has launched a 30-day sustained joint security operation in 19 frontline local government areas of the state.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, made this known to journalists on Tuesday evening after an expanded meeting of the State Security Council at the Government House, Katsina.

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda convened a meeting to address the recent surge in bandit attacks that have taken advantage of the protection provided by the rainy season and bumper harvests.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders including members of the State Security Council, Local Government Chairmen, District Chiefs, Divisional Police Officers, representatives of the Department of State Services, Vigilante Group Chiefs, Commander of the Katsina Community Watch Corps and Civil Defence officials from the 19 local government areas.

Affected areas include: Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, Kankia, Faskari, Dandume, Sabuwa, Dutsin-ma, Kurfi, Kankara, Musawa, Matazu, Malumfashi, Danja, Bakori, Funtua, Charanchi, and Batagarawa.

According to Muazu, the following resolution was unanimously adopted to implement a community-based security approach, utilizing local intelligence and participation.

“The launch of a 30-day continuous operation across all 19 local government areas, harnessing the combined strength of all security agencies to protect lives and property.

“Activation of the four-tier security structure established under the laws of Katsina State to drive coordinated community-based security operations.

“Empowerment of affected local government councils to provide modalities for security operations, with emphasis on robust community-based intelligence gathering mechanisms. Call on traditional leaders to use their platforms to preach and pray for peace, unity and prosperity in the state,” he said.

“The Katsina State Government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and will spare no effort in implementing this resolution.

“We urge all citizens to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities in their areas. Together, we can build a safer and more secure Katsina State,” Muazu added.
