Figure AI Inc. introduces second-generation humanoid robot that can talk and listen to people’s conversations

The code name for this new humanoid robot is Figure 02. As the name suggests, this system is a replacement for the Figure 01 robot that was launched in 2023.

Rather than a crude demo of a robot in motion, the first teaser video is reminiscent of a consumer electronics product video and is comparable to videos of other humanoids.

The most noticeable modification to this humanoid robot is the matte black finish, which replaces the chrome metallic look of Figure 01. Compared to Figure 01’s armor-like exterior, this gives Figure 02 a sleek and contemporary look that is similar to a high-end sports vehicle.

In order for Figure 01 to withstand extensive testing, Figure AI had initially “over-designed” it. On the other hand, the current version has cables inside its limbs to protect it from the elements and allow it to work long shifts on the production line.

Longer working periods in real-world applications are made possible by the Figure 02’s 50% larger battery capacity than the Figure 01. The robot’s agility and balance are enhanced by its integrated battery, which also serves to increase the robot’s center of mass.
