Ondo sets new date for local council elections

The Ondo State Government has set January 18, 2025 for general elections in the 18 local government areas of the state.

The election was originally set for July 13 but was postponed indefinitely by the government.

The state Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Dr. Joseph Aremo, announced the new date at a stakeholders meeting held at the commission’s headquarters on Friday in Akure.

He said the election rescheduling was carried out due to non-compliance by parties with election guidelines.

He assured the people of Ondo of ODIEC’s readiness to conduct free and fair elections in the state.

The chairman urged political parties that had conducted their primaries before the postponement to forward their approved candidate lists to the commission.
