Police declare Briton, Nigerian wanted over plot to overthrow Tinubu government

Nigerian police have declared a British national, Andrew Wynne, and a Nigerian national, Lucky Obiyan, as wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.

Police also allege that the British national, also known as Andrew Povich, set up a network of sleeper cells to overthrow the government.

Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Abuja.

He said the foreign nationals rented premises at Labour House in Abuja and set up a school as bait.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had earlier filed six counts of treason and other criminal charges against Wynne and other organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protests at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The IGP alleged the accused conspired to commit crimes, including treason, between July 1 and August 4.

Adejobi said: “The Nigerian Police Force has launched a thorough investigation into the activities of foreign nationals and subversive elements who are planning to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrating violence across the country.

“After extensive intelligence gathering and cooperation with other security agencies, nine suspects have been arrested, who received huge financial support from foreign sources to destabilize the country.
