Bandits kill police, civilians in attack in Sokoto

In the early hours of the PDP summoning Wike to a disciplinary committee over alleged anti-party activities, suspected armed bandits killed a policeman and a local resident in Sokoto.

Confirming the incident, state police spokesman ASP Ahmed Rufai reported that the bandits ambushed the officers at their checkpoint.

“They ambushed them at a checkpoint at Milgoma junction along the Sokoto-Bodinga road and shot them at close range,” Rufai said.

“A policeman, Inspector Eze, was killed while another local resident also died in the incident.”

Rufai also confirmed that armed bandits were neutralized on the Sokoto-Isa road. He detailed that in the shootout that occurred on Sunday night, one AK-49 rifle was recovered from the bandits.

Earlier in August, bandits killed four soldiers and burnt two military vehicles in Gudu Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

The police also said they had no information about the reported kidnapping of 150 people in Gobir Emirate. Recently, Isa Bawa, the Gatawa District Chief in Sabon Birni Local Government, was reported killed while in captivity.
