Donald Trump has announced that he will not participate in a televised debate with his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, ahead of November’s presidential election.
In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” He included in his count his previous debate with US President Joe Biden in June and his recent clash with Harris.
The Democratic nominee put Trump on the defensive in the ABC News-hosted showdown watched by 67 million people. His campaign called for a second fight in October shortly after the debate. But Trump has now backed away, claiming Harris is desperate for a second chance.

Trump wrote in his post, “The polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Radical Left Candidate of the Democratic Party, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate.” He added, “When a boxer loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH.’”
However, polls showed Harris outperforming Trump in the debate. A CNN poll of viewers said Harris outperformed Trump 63 to 37 percent, while a YouGov poll said Harris presented a clearer plan 43 to 32 percent.
The debate between the vice presidential candidates, Democratic Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota and Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, is currently scheduled to be hosted by CBS News on October 1.
