JAMB will automate services, reduce physical contact with candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to fully automate its services to prevent extortion and improve service delivery. The decision came after reports of unfair practices and exploitation of candidates, especially underage candidates.

According to the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede in a bulletin published on its website, limiting physical contact is crucial to addressing this issue.

“Given the large number of candidates sitting for the UTME who are underage, the committee is considering limiting physical contact with those with disabilities to avoid alleged extortion and other forms of exploitation,” he said.

To achieve this, JAMB will move to online interactions, recording calls for effective monitoring and quality control.

Oloyede stressed that candidates no longer need to have physical contact with JAMB officials, thereby reducing the chances of exploitation.

Steps to Prevent Blackmail

– Automation of services to reduce physical contact
– Online interactions to minimize face-to-face meetings
– Recorded calls for monitoring and quality control
– An investigation team was deployed to investigate the extortion report.

Oloyede urged students who were blackmailed to provide credible evidence, warning that errant staff would face severe consequences. “Any staff found errant will face the full brunt of the law,” he said.
