Labour Party’s Akpata dismisses reports of withdrawal from Edo governorship election

The Labour Party candidate in Saturday’s Edo gubernatorial election in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, has dismissed reports of his withdrawal from the race.

Akpata, who spoke to reporters on Friday in Benin City, said he was still in the running to become governor of the state.

He said reports of his withdrawal from the election were the work of crooked politicians.

The LP candidate appealed to Edo people to ignore the publication, saying, “I am still in the running.”

“I have been inundated with calls and messages from friends and supporters, compelling me to issue this statement to dispel the malicious rumours circulating that I have decided to step down and support the PDP candidate in tomorrow’s governorship election.

“The idea that I would resign on the eve of an election, after receiving overwhelming support from our good citizens, borders on fantasy.

“This pathetic attempt at fraud is so amateurish that the ‘Oluwole’ forgers could not even write the date correctly, leaving ‘July 29, 2024’ on their fake documents,” Akpata said.

He urged journalists to report facts accurately and diligently check the truth of information before publishing it.
