TCN partners with NSCDC to combat vandalism and right-of-way encroachment

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Katsina Sub-Region, has strengthened its collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Katsina State Command, to enhance the protection of transmission infrastructure and address the growing challenge of vandalism and right-of-way encroachment.

Director General, TCN Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah revealed this in a statement.

According to the press release, the partnership was strengthened during a courtesy visit to the Command, led by the Deputy Director General of Transmission, Eng. Usman S. Idris.

Speaking during the visit, Eng. Idris praised the Command for its prompt response to previous security concerns.

He also briefed officials on recent incidents affecting transmission facilities within the sub-region, including the vandalism of T-219 Tower and T-228 Tower along the 132 kV Katsina-Daura transmission line. The incident was discovered recently during a routine patrol and is part of cases of vandalism which are of great concern to third-country nationals.

He noted that such acts of sabotage threaten the integrity of the transmission grid and jeopardize the stability of electricity supply, underlining the need for sustained collaboration to protect critical national infrastructure.

In response, the State Commander, Abbas Dan-Ile Moriki, revealed that investigations into the reported incidents had begun. He assured TCN of the Command’s continued support and promised closer coordination to curb vandalism and encroachment on the right of way, RoW, through proactive measures.

Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to increased information sharing in safeguarding the nation’s transmission infrastructure.
