The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of mounting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend the counting of results from the Edo state governorship election held on Saturday.
The allegation was contained in a statement by the National Public Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, who said that credible intelligence information obtained by the party had revealed that the APC wanted the counting of the governorship election results to be suspended to make room for manipulating the INEC portal and replacing the actual results from the units with fake figures that favoured the APC.
“Our party has learnt that the APC is increasing pressure on the Electoral Commission Chairman Mahmood Yakubu and the military to resign from their posts so that the APC can deploy its armed thugs to disrupt and manipulate the vote counting process,” Ologunagba said.
“The PDP strongly warns INEC and the APC to be aware that the people of Edo State have already obtained the genuine results from Polling Units across the State and that any attempt by anyone or any group to alter the results will inflame the already tense situation with dire consequences for the perpetrators.
“The KPU must not forget the outcry that erupted following the criminal attempt by the former Adamawa State Election Commissioner, Mallam Hudu Ari, to alter the results of the 2023 Governorship election in the state, which nearly resulted in the deaths of several KPU officials.

“The Electoral Commission and the APC must realise that any attempt to alter the outcome of the Edo State governorship election will have worse consequences as the people have shown their readiness to use all means permissible in a democracy, including legitimate physical confrontation, if necessary to protect their votes.
“PDP has given the KPU a mandate to reject pressure from the KPU and ensure that no one manipulates the vote counting results at the TPS.
“Our party commends the military for its professionalism in defending our democracy in the Edo State governorship election and urges the Military High Command not to succumb to pressure from the APC to withdraw from their posts and allow the manipulation of the process.
“The PDP again appeals to the people of Edo State to remain at the Coalition Centre in large numbers and monitor the counting of votes to ensure that their Will as expressed in the election is affirmed,” the PDP statement said.
