UNIOSUN’s 16 medals top the list of gold-free countries as the provisional table for the 15th West African University Games (OUA 2026) shows 34 podium finishes for six institutions.
Six universities were still without a gold medal at the XV West African University Games (OUA 2026) when the last official table was published. Together they have won 34 medals, 9 silver and 25 bronze.
The table was updated at 03:49 WAT on October 11 and covers 155 of the 160 events. Only results confirmed by the Technical Committee are counted.
UNIOSUN leads the way
Osun State University (UNIOSUN) is the strongest of the six. He is in 18th place with 6 silver and 10 bronze, 16 medals in total. That equals the totals of the University of Ilorin, in eighth place, and the University of Cape Coast, in ninth place, and that’s more than nine schools ranked above that have won. Those nine include Delta State University, Abraka (11), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (12), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (14) and the University of Abuja (13). According to the table rule, ranked by gold first, silver second and bronze third, the depth of UNIOSUN podiums cannot surpass schools with even a single gold.
Ilesa, Lead City and Plateau State on the board
The University of Ilesa (UNILESA) is ranked 19th with 1 silver and 6 bronze, 7 medals in total.
Lead City University (LCU) and Plateau State University (PLASU) share 20th place. Each has 1 silver and 1 bronze. The tie rule in the table means that no school is ranked 21st.
Bronze only for FUATO and FUTA
The Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUATO) is ranked 22nd with four bronze medals. The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) is in 23rd place with three.
By the numbers
The six schools account for about 7 percent of the 475 medals awarded so far. They own 9 of the 151 silvers (6 percent) and 25 of the 169 bronzes (15 percent).
The classification remains provisional
Five events are out of the table, so these positions could change. The table does not break down medals by sport, so the events behind each school’s results are not yet public.
