President Bola Tinubu’s order for Nigeria’s top military brass to move to Sokoto State in a bid to flush out bandits and terrorists in the Northwest has yielded unprecedented results as bandit leaders were reportedly wiped out in their dozens.
The latest to be arrested, according to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, were prominent bandit kingpins known as Sani Black and Kachalla Makore, who operate in Zamfara State and are close allies of Bello Turji.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Makama said the two met at Waterloo during a fierce battle with security forces on Tuesday.
“In another major breakthrough in North West Zamfara by Nigerian security forces, notorious bandit leaders, Sani Black and Kachalla Makore have been killed along with some of their fighters,” Makama wrote.
“The operation took place along Kwankele road in Magami area, Gusau Local Government Area, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
“Kachalla Makore and his men were reportedly on their way to retrieve the body of another bandit leader, Kachalla Sani Black, who was killed earlier in Dan Sadau area of Maru Local Government Area. Sani Black was killed at Magama Mai Rake, another notorious spot for bandit activities.
“Kachalla Makore rose to power after the death of his predecessor, Kachalla Damuna, and was known for his criminal operations around Kangon Garacci village in Dan Gulbi area, also within Maru Local Government Area.
“This victory by the security forces is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate top bandit leaders and curb banditry and violent crimes in the North West. They are close allies of Bello Turji.”
The security expert also provided a list of bandit leaders who have been killed since the order was given by President Tinubu.
